Anger at dumping of sewage in local rivers

Swansea Liberal Democrats call on the Welsh Government to take action over water companies that dumped sewage into Welsh Rivers. After Conservative MPs have voted to block plans to stop water companies from dumping raw sewage and other waste into rivers.

Last year, water companies dumped sewage into Welsh Rivers more than 100,000 times for nearly 900,000 hours last year.  This sewage that is being discharged went into streams, rivers and the sea effect those living close rivers and beaches and damages local wildlife.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Candidate for Waterfront, Sam Bennett said: “The river Tawe is at the heart of the Waterfront community and should be protected from unnecessary pollution. Yet sadly, the river is being contaminated with raw sewage and other waste. We need to make a start on addressing this."

He continues "It does not help our rivers and beaches when we have a lack of action from the Welsh Labour government and when Tory MP's block positive measures that will make a real difference."

The Welsh Liberal Democrats are demanding better from the governments in Cardiff and London.
