Sketty Liberal Democrat Councillors have welcomed plans by Forest School to run a Summer Playscheme for local children during the coming summer holidays.

“We are pleased that following our discussions with officers from Swansea Council’s Play Service and Forest School, a Playscheme has been organised in New Mill Road woods”, said Councillor Cheryl Philpott. “It’s so important that young people have something interesting and exciting to do during the summer holidays and we are grateful to our colleagues for putting this on.”

Forest School SNPT (Swansea, Neath, Port Talpbot) has been providing inspiring approaches to outdoor learning and play since 2001. They want all children and young people to have the chance to be able to look back on their childhood with magical memories of playing in the woods or outdoors, getting muddy, discovering bugs and eating food cooked on the fire they made. They train others in how to use these approaches through a wide range of courses and deliver projects to children and young people of all abilities.

Councillor Mike Day added: “We have a wonderful natural environment in the area, and children will learn about it and how to look after it. Our aim in arranging this Playscheme is to give a gift full of fun for the present and encourage the young people to protect the world for future generations.”

The playscheme will be from 10-12 each day between 26 and 30 July and will be free, but booking with Forest School is essential, as places are strictly limited to 12 each morning. The  contact details to enrol are: telephone: 01792 367118 Email:[email protected]
